A tour of Hohenschwangau reveals paintings of more ancient German legends upon which Wagner based many of his works. This castle became the summer residence of Ludwig II, who legendized his own name by trying to immortalize Wagner's imagination.
We'll tell the history of Bavaria and give you the complete story of Ludwig II. Was he really mad? What really happened in the days leading up to his mysterious death? Was it murder, suicide, or an accident?

Fraueninsel + Herrenchiemsee
This excursion lets you visit two islands on Bavaria's largest lake and King Ludwig 's largest and most costly project, Herrenchiemsee. Having already constructed Linderhof after Versailles, Ludwig II decided to erect yet another palace dedicated to the Sun King, Louis IV. Ludwig inherited the island of Herrenchiemsee in 1873, and five years later the foundations of what was to be his most grandiose residence were laid. The work had begun at the peak of Ludwig's craving for reclusion and at the height of his fascination with the French Bourbon dynasty. With the unification of Germany, Ludwig sensed that time for European monarchies was limited. His desire to preserve absolutism can be seen in every completed room of the palace. In fact, the Hall of Mirrors is larger in size and splendour than that of the original.
Even the gardens are as breathtaking as the palace's interiors.
Your guide will accompany you on a train ride heading towards the edges of the Alps. There will be a short steam train ride to the mainland of Prien before you board the ship to Herrenchiemsee. The Ludwig II Museum is also located on the large island. A short ferry trip to Frauenchiemsee awaits you. There you can visit Frauenworth Cloister and purchase unique souvenirs, such as the nuns' homemade marzipan and liquor. Don't miss out on what most tourists do!
